Art at the BlueLine, a free, outdoor exhibition, will launch on City of Water Day on Piers 16 and 17. For two weeks beginning Saturday, July 16, Matthew López-Jensen, Mary Mattingly and contributing artists, and Sarah Nelson Wright and Edrex Fontanilla will present art installations at the BlueLine—the future high tide line. Art at the BlueLine is produced by Waterfront Alliance, with the generous support of the Howard Hughes Corporation and in partnership with the South Street Seaport Museum and HEP.

The Seaport Museum is thrilled to host artist Mary Mattingly’s River Lab right under the bow of our flagship Wavertree for the duration of Art at the BlueLine. River Lab is an interactive installation that offers different ways to explore the East River through the five senses.
On weekends, River Lab will be activated with programming such as drawing workshops, workshops with riparian plant dyes, sound experiences, looking at the river on a molecular level through different lenses, and seeing foods grown from cleaned river water.
On weekdays, visitors will be able to access multigenerational narratives and information about the East River’s indigenous and local lives.
Mattingly is an interdisciplinary artist who co-creates sculptural ecosystems that address forms of public food and commons. “River Lab is a toolkit that offers multiple ways of seeing, listening to, and being with the East River,” she said. “It explores water through different senses: ways of seeing, smelling, touching, tasting, and listening with the river.”
Education Programs on W.O. Decker
W.O. Decker is available for educational programs middle school high school university, smaller groups, especially good for marine science studies or and getting close to various habitats and the working waterfront.
